Even though the consumption of live animals has spread from Southeast Asia across the world, Swiss law is slow to respond to this new praxis. This article presents new scientific findings about the pain sensitivity of animals commonly eaten alive, and on this basis analyses in detail whether Swiss criminal law provides adequate protection for affected animals, both in terms of coverage and scope.
